The Partition Resizer to Free Resize/Move FAT32, NTFS Partitions

Advantage:

Resize/Move function will help you Extend system partition to maximize computer performance as well as better manage hard disk usage. By the way, you may find that there is no enough free space on a certain partition and want to solve this low disk problem.

  • For home users, EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition is totally free to let you enlarge or reduce any FAT32/NTFS partition on your hard drive with its main function Resize/Move in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7 (32 bit).
  • For server users, EASEUS Partition Master Server Edition works perfectly to enlarge or reduce any FAT32/NTFS partition in Windows 2000 Professional and Server, Windows XP (32 and 64 bit) and Windows 2003 Server (32 and 64 bit), Windows 2008 Server (32 and 64 bit), Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit) and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) without destroying data.

Note:

In order to ensure a smooth and successful operation process and data protection, you may check the tips below before resizing/move your partition:

  • 1. Close all other applications including the antivirus software and the firewall when running the software.
  • 2. Check your disk firstly: see how.
  • 3. 10% free space is needed to resize the partition.
  • 4. If possible, please backup all your important data.

By the way, it may take a long time to resize or move your partition under the circumstance of bad sectors/track, large data size or low memory, etc. For data protection, please do not shut down or restart your computer directly if the resizing process seems to stop running, instead, please check whether the indicator light of the disk is still blinking or not, if so, our program is still running. So, we suggest you wait some hours patiently and see whether the situation would be better.

There are three cases when you want to resize (extend and decrease) an existing NTFS or FAT partition on a single hard drive as bellows:

Case 1 - When you want to extend an NTFS or FAT partition on the drive and there is a partition next to it, please do as the following steps: (In this case, suppose you want to extend drive C: and partition D: is next to C: drive)

1. Launch EASEUS Partition Master and you will see a main board.

EASEUS Partition Master

2. Select D: to be decreased. Right click D: and select "Resize/Move".

Resize D: drive

3. A popped-up dialog box indicates the current size of D: partition. The box also depicts the used and unused space on the partition and the free space surrounding the partition (if any exists); the minimum and maximum sizes that you can resize a partition; cluster size of the partition.

Specific information of D: drive

4. Position the mouse pointer on the left partition handle. Drag the handle to the partition size you want when the mouse pointer changes to a double-headed arrow.

Adjust D: drive

5. Click OK. Then there is unallocated space on the right side of C: drive.

After decreased D: drive

6. Position the mouse pointer on the right handle of C: partition. Drag the handle to the partition size you want when the mouse pointer changes to a double-headed arrow.

Enlarge C: drive

7. Click Apply.

Case 2 - When you want to extend an NTFS or FAT partition on the drive and there is unallocated space next to it, please do as the following steps: (In this case, suppose you want to extend drive E: )

1. Launch EASEUS Partition Master and you will see a main board.

EASEUS Partition Master

2. Right click E: partition and select Resize/Move.

Resize E: drive

3. A popped-up dialog box indicates the current size of E: partition. The box also depicts the used and unused space on the partition and the free space surrounding the partition (if any exists); the minimum and maximum sizes that you can resize a partition; cluster size of the partition.

Specific information of E: drive

4. Position the mouse pointer on the right partition handle. Drag the handle to the partition size you want when the mouse pointer changes to a double-headed arrow and click OK.

Enlarge E: drive

5. Click Apply.

Case 3 - When you want to decrease an NTFS or FAT partition on the drive, please do as the following steps: (In this case, suppose you want to decrease drive D:)

1. Launch EASEUS Partition Master and you will see a main board.

EASEUS Partition Master

2. Select D: to be decreased. Right click D: and select “Resize/Move”.

Decrease D: drive

5. Click OK. You will preview the decreased D: drive on the disk map.

Final Effect of partitionning

6. Click Apply.

Tips:

You can also resize FAT32/NTFS partition by specifying new values in the Unallocated Space Before, Partition Size, and Unallocated Space After text boxes. The values you type may change slightly to values supported by your drive's geometry.

To make a partition smaller, the partition must contain unused space. To enlarge a partition, there must be free space adjacent to it. When you resizing a FAT partition, the cluster size will be changed automatically to fit for the partition size, but to NTFS partition, the cluster size won’t be changed. By the way, cluster size of NTFS partition can be changed when you create or format NTFS partition.

EASEUS Partition Master automatically considers the limitations of file systems and parameters provided. In particular, it won't let you enlarge a FAT16 partition over the maximum 4GB value.

By clicking OK in the Resize Partition window, you'll create a pending operation for partition resizing and moving (your actions may only undo or modify an existing operation.)

Take special care when moving an operating system partition and its boot code location. The OS might stop booting. For example, Windows NT 4.0 and earlier versions limit boot code location to the first 2016MB.
